I've generally found motorcycle rallies and biker bars to be extremely friendly places, in truth. Still, if you just wandered in and you don't have any background, this is an actually helpful newspaper article that will convey information that will improve your life.
Partly this is by actually writing down the "unwritten rules."
Rule No. 1: Hands OffA motorcycle is not a park bench.Don't sit on one.Don't lean against one.Don't climb aboard for a photograph.
I won't copy the whole list, but here's another bit of real wisdom:
Rule No. 4: Leave The Old Lady AloneA surefire way to get your ass kicked at Sturgis is by "messing with someone's old lady,” Pretty Bobbie continued. The term itself might sound less than flattering to an outsider. In biker culture, Pretty Bobbie said calling a woman “old lady” is "the utmost term of respect."
Come to think of it, versions of both of those are in the Ten Commandments. They had asses instead of motorcycles, but it made the list.
