A Sadly Predictable Outcome Awaits

Headline: "Venezuela has a bread shortage. The government has decided bakers are the problem."

UPDATE: "Speculators who hide the bread from the people."

Why doesn't that happen in America, I wonder?

Xleb, zemlya, i mir. And the Venezuelans get none of that. Maduro isn't a very good Leninist. He's not even a very good Stalinist.

And the Venezuelan government also apparently thinks a good solution to the problem is to ban people from standing in line to buy bread. It's almost as if they were a little unclear about where bread comes from, why there sometimes isn't enough of it, and what we can do about it.

Let us all remember, there are large potions of our population here, who think no different, and would impose the same strictures. This has been going on as long as we have been able to record it. IIRC, Bastiat speaks to this, it is the ironclad results of inflation and wage and price controls.

But, but but... they just aren't doing Socialism correctly! I'm sure the smart Socialists in America (racist, hateful, destructive America) will get it right!
