Yuletide

A heartwarming Yuletide story from the Saga of Hrolf Kraki.

The name they give at the end is Hjalti, which means, "Hilt." Thus, he was honored by being named after the hilt of the sword he used.

That is a good story. I wonder how the rest of Hjalti's new life went.

Read the saga. It's reasonably short.

It's also the source for Beorn, father of Grimbeorn the Old, from the Hobbit.

Sounds like a good read.

Poul Anderson's treatment of this saga is a good one, if the somewhat dry usual translations don't do it for you. I found it 40 years ago and chose that name to use in reeacting. Cheers.
