War on Women! Part II (For Today)

The Secretary of the Navy has announced today that woman Marines and sailors will have 18 weeks of maternity leave, bringing the US Navy in line with Europe.
"In the Navy and the Marine Corps, we are continually looking for ways to recruit and retain the best people," Mabus said. "We have incredibly talented women who want to serve, and they also want to be mothers and have the time to fulfill that important role the right way. We can do that for them. Meaningful maternity leave when it matters most is one of the best ways that we can support the women who serve our county. This flexibility is an investment in our people and our Services, and a safeguard against losing skilled service members."
Paternity leave? Ten days. And that's only since 2008: before that, "paternity" was just a form of lawsuit for the Navy.

UPDATE: This policy will be even more fun once we get those new transgender rules in place.

Eighteen weeks.

When my wife was pregnant with our daughter, she was on duty until, as it happened, the Friday before our daughter's Sunday birth. Then granting that our respective parents cycled through on two-week stints while she was on maternity leave for four weeks, which no doubt eased her recovery quite a bit, she returned to duty after those four weeks.

It's of a piece with the move to demand [sic] that women have a three-day hospital stay following mastectomy surgery. Whether it's warranted or not. Regardless of the woman's choice or actual need.

It's crap like this that gives women in the military a bad name. Maybe by design.

It's interesting: assuming a married pair of Marines or soldiers, they'd get orders like, "Lance Corporal Johnson, congratulations. We'll see you in four and a half months. Lance Corporal Johnson, congratulations. We'll see you next week."

As my wife rightly points out, you can't in any way give 18 weeks off to the men. But it's going to be a lot of fun sorting out the disparity once the trans* stuff comes into play. Can you identify as female for one year, if you really want four and a half months off to be with your child? We can't say that only one member of the married couple can be female, now that gay marriage is being written into military law. Does that mean that the lesbian married couple both get 4.5 months off if they adopt or have a sperm donor, but the gay male couple gets only 10 days each?

Just wait 'til the hermaphrodites start signing up.

Is that all people can say about the Democrats destroying the United States military and colonizing the US using foreign terrorists?
