I've seen Ray Wylie Hubbard twice in person and while I enjoy his songs, it's his storytelling that's more than worth the price of admission. I still laugh every time someone talks about metaphors just because of his long, rambling story about visiting Europe on tour and trying to explain "Last Train To Amsterdam" to someone actually from Amsterdam.
