Ponzi and education

I miss Richard Jeni:
Imagine my surprise when it turned out the main thing that I was qualified for was to get another degree and teach Political Science to other people, who would, in turn, teach it to other people! This wasn't higher education, this was Amway with a football team!
No disrespect intended to poli sci majors. My own undergraduate degree was in Fine Arts.

Heh. A pyramid scheme with a declining base.

My wife's degree is in fine arts. I'm always amazed at what it's qualified her to do. She's a whiz at fabrication.

A properly done Fine Arts program or a properly done Liberal Arts program teaches a far broader range of thinking, from a far broader base, than does an engineering degree, or one in physics.

Those others can be excellent programs, too, when done right--which is to say with recognition that the subject matter is not only important in its own right, but also as a milieu within which, and a tool with which, to teach thinking.

"properly done" is the sticky point- as far as I can gather, most "liberal arts" schools are pushing a collectivist agenda.
A school like Hillsdale seems to be a rare exception.

disclaimer-I am not now, nor have I ever, attended a
college, university or other "institute of higher learning." So my opinion may be biased in the extreme.

I was making fun of the Poli-sci majors when I was in college in the 1980's.

Poli-sci: It's History without the facts.

That was my impression of my school's entire PoliSci department as well, Eric.
