The Origins of Country Music

So there’s a very clear steel guitar in the piece that is absent. The introduction of the guitar itself is interesting, but the steel guitar— which originated in Hawaii— is a part of the story worth reading about.

That's what I always figured must have happened.

Were you commenting on the earlier history of old time / bluegrass / Western swing video?

But I agree that's missing from the story there. It will probably be this weekend before I get to it, but I'm planning to post on the history of country music as well. The connection to Hawaii is interesting. In addition to steel guitar, I think the slide guitar style was invented in Hawaii and brought over in the early 20th century, then made its way into country, blues, etc.

No I mean this video. If you know
what a steel guitar sounds like you can hear one clearly at the start of the first country song.

I heard the pedal steel right off the bat as well and was wondering where it was. But it was clear the everything was missing. No real bass, no drum kit. Willing suspension of disbelief, I guess.

Yeah, I blew off the music. Since it was all a joke, I didn't think anyone would seriously listen for that sort of thing. But I really did plan to do a 'history of country music' post this weekend.
