Flamenco and Classical Guitar

I was curious about the flamenco guitars and techniques Eric mentioned, so here's some demonstration of some basic flamenco techniques.

Here's one on the physical and cultural differences between the guitars themselves:

Music below the fold.
Here's Paco de Lucia playing flamenco:

For classical guitar, here's Francisco Tárrega's composition, "Memories of Alhambra," played by John Williams:

And here's Jenny and the Mexicats playing "La Bruja," wherein we can hear a bit of flamenco but it's really just for fun:

And why not some Gipsy Kings?

The Spanish gave us both the classical and flamenco guitars and musical styles. In fact, classical guitar is sometimes called Spanish guitar, although classical guitarists have come from many other cultures as well. It's a remarkable musical culture.

Thanks for pointing out all that flamenco stuff that got me looking into it.

Do you have any flamenco players you recommend? Or maybe post videos of them?

We have a 5-pack of Paco de Lucia CDs and my husband reminds me that we also have an album called "Friday Night in San Francisco", a live album with Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucía. My husband's description is: They all play really fast. :+)

I was talking with a music teacher the other day and mentioned that I like Paco de Lucia. He said a lot of guitarists love him right up until they try to learn to play like him.
