Precision is Beautiful

Food, cut into 2.5cm cubes. Surprisingly beautiful for a piece of modern art, but I suppose nature gets most of the credit here. The art of imposing an exactly-similar external form only highlights the beauty of the natural differences.

The contrast of the regular geometric form and the organic shapes of the material gives it a tension. I see lot of wood pieces like that when cutting out knots, etc. It is also fun how the pattern of shapes repeat in nature- the exact same ripple patterns repeat in a piece of wood, mother of pearl, an ancient bluff of sandstone, and in the clouds.

Nice pun there, Tex.

It amuses me that I assumed this was a post by Tex, and lo and behold, it's Grim's!

This is a great example of how rigorously following a set of rules can powerfully frame more seemingly subtle distinctions.

Would have been a great example of the power of well chosen sections, if I was still teaching studio.

I think your studio must have been awfully interesting.
