Wow

Both of my Senators just voted against the NRA. I don't think that's ever happened before.

Of course, it was just to open debate, not to pass a final law. If the Senators come back in the fold before the law passes, the NRA probably comes out ahead because ultimately-loyal votes look less like pets. Still, I'm surprised to see the open defiance by both of Georgia's Senators.

I suppose that opens up a possible slot to the right of Saxby Chambliss. Grim for Senate, 2014?

I'm not so concerned about voting for cloture, especially on this issue.

This allows the Republicans to force the Democrats, one by one, to vote on actual gun control legislation. The Dems from Red states who are up next year will be between a rock and a hard place. The individual votes, by members of both parties, on the actual bills will be instructive. Someone needs to have the stones to call the roll.

The Republicans in the House had a similar chance on taxes during the fiscal cliff teapot tempest--but too many chuckleheads torpedoed Boehnor's Plan B.

Republicans and Conservatives need to stop shooting themselves in the foot and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think EH's analysis rings true. Let's see what happens with a real vote.

I'm agreeing with Eric (both of em). I was actually upset at the stupid talk of a filibuster. All it would do is provide cover to vulnerable Democrats so they didn't have to go on record on the one wedge issue we can really pound them on. MAKE them go on record. Don't help them hide. And if any Republicans vote for it, you know how to replace em.

"Those horrid Republicans wouldn't even let us VOTE on this!" just got taken away from the Democrats. Cool. Let the vote come up. Heck, let it even pass the Senate. The House will stop it.

Wow, I'd have to seriously think about moving to Georgia.

Just heard from Sen Isakson on the radio driving home last night. He stated he wanted there to be a vote so everyone would have to stand for what they believe in. As I suspected.
