In their rush to comply with the order to eliminate all DEI materials, the Pentagon apparently deleted references to Ira Hayes on their website.
No matter. We remember him, and honor him, regardless of what the government does. Johnny Cash made sure he'll never be forgotten.

At a certain point, one starts to wonder about malicious compliance. "We'll go so far overboard that it will make the order look stupid and it will be rescinded," that sort of compliance.
Mine as well, douglas, although, is it really compliance? I don't think so. I don't think there's anything in the anti-DEI orders that says take down everything with minorities in it. I suspect this is just simple maliciousness.
"Malicious compliance" is a way of resisting an order by obeying it. It's a longstanding practice for dealing with commanders who don't get it, and I can easily see how it would make perfect sense for people at the Pentagon (itself just across the river from DC). "Comply" with the order by purging all the pages about Ira Hayes and the Navajo Code Talkers, the Glory regiment from the Civil War, etc.; and then leak to a friendly WaPo reporter that darn Trump made you do it. They get to write the story they want -- the Post is in open rebellion against their owner on the subject of being loud and proud anti-Trump -- and the small remaining readership gets to feel good about being On The Right Side of History.
The Pentagon is the ultimate Headquarters Unit, after all. The POGs of POGs.
In the case of the Navajo Code Talkers, I'd note that an aspect of their ethnicity--specifically, their language--was an inherent part of the work they did. To refer to the accomplishments without reference to their language would be as silly as banning a post on codebreakers from disclosing that many of them had mathematical or linguistic backgrounds.
I don't know if it is malicious compliance or arrant stupidity, but this is really, really bad. It reminds me of the destruction of statues. It's harmful to the country and also harmful to the political future of Republicans/MAGA.

And leak that it happened to the Washington Post?
But again, it doesn't matter. He's one of our heroes. We don't depend on the government to do what's right by him.
I swear to you, what LR is saying was my first thought on looking at the article. Way too convenient.

Good old Kinky.
