I remember when this referendum finally passed.

At the time, for different reasons, bootleggers and preachers were on the same side in trying to shoot the issue down.

After it passed, the A&P in Sylva sold more beer than any other A&P in the country.

I don’t think there’s a single restaurant that doesn’t sell beer there now, in addition to the two brewpubs, wine bars, and two cocktail lounges. The town if anything has grown more upscale since the alcohol was allowed. It is otherwise fancy shops and boutiques, a day spa, a midwifery/doula place, some antique stores, a fancy chocolate shop, three bookstores….
