The fourth branch of government

From Ace of Spades HQ:
The old common wisdom was that the 'Deep State' was just a kwazy konspiracy theory cooked up by kooky konservatives from their paranoid, delusional fantasies. But, upon further reflection, the Deep State is apparently the fourth branch of government, not mentioned in the US Constitution, but nevertheless real and necessary; a bulwark, if you will, that protects the perks, privileges and prerogatives of an unaccountable, bureaucratic elite against American citizens who have the insolence to believe that they're entitled to participate in constitutionally mandated elections."

"Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people":

First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration.

Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc.

The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization."

It doesn't pay to look at them as communists, or one-worlders, or whatever. Their ideology is bureaucracy, and they are leftists insofar as their peer group - other international bureaucrats and journalists - are as well. That is actually a greater problem in terms of ever changing their minds or behavior. A person who believes in something can change his mind. A person who believes in being a part of the machine that surrounds them cannot.

Motls has an interesting take on unofficial governance.

AVI is right on, of course. Who ran the palace, the emperor or the eunuchs?

Ask Ymar what he knows about the Deep State that he hasn't told the public yet.

Humanity is slow in awakening to this Eternal Dream.

Haha, Ace of Space.

That was just a typo, not a joke!

The AP government textbooks teach that the executive branch agencies are the fourth branch of government. That goes back at least 5 years as part of the AP curriculum, make of it what you will.

It's not the first horror story I've heard about the stark bias in the AP exams.

I present to you, the Deep State Dark Fleet.

Imperial Navy = US Navy Solar Warden

Chaos Fleet of Reds = Dark Cabal

Haha, this is great. Who would have known those board gamers had been leaked this stuff. It's like the Illuminati card game.

This stuff is too good. You can flip the Loyalist (American patriot DS Alliance) and have the Chaos be the American patriot DS alliance too. They are all morally "iffy", since they are the Deep State.

This is no joke. This is by far, the most accurate depiction of what is really going on with the Deep State. The fact that nearly nobody can believe it is the master stroke. When truth is setup that it cannot be believed, what would counter intel give for that?
