Just how many Deputy Sheriffs would it have taken before they got comfortable enough to do their jobs and save the lives of the children dying in front of them? We'll never know, since they apparently waited for a different department to arrive and do the job the deputies would not do.
Asked about corruption in his department, by the way, the Sheriff said, "Lions don't care about the opinions of sheep." He did not explain how he knew anything about the opinions of lions, but we can clearly rule out any direct experience. The article suggests it was from watching Game of Thrones in his leisure hours, which seems much more plausible.

One deputy, could just be that guy. Four is a problem with their leadership.

Of course I'm far from sure how I'd react if called on to run into a building to confront a shooter. What I do know is that, if I didn't rise to the occasion, my life wouldn't be worth living afterwards. At least the football coach who died putting his body between the shooter and a student knew what to do.
Why should the police unions, with superior classes of sheepdogs, risk their lives to save potential and probably criminals in the civilian pop?
From their pov, it's not worth the risk, since every civilian "saved" is just another crook in the future. And crims are their prey and predator, not the buddies of the Thin Blue Line.

Rory Miller already wrote about it last year. There's a severe "issue" with certain proto military sub cultures, which includes police unions and LEOs.
Also the Deep State is playing the American people as usual. This Israel guy is such an obvious patsy and aggro tank. He's so outrageous people will forget to look into who gave the FBI orders to discontinue and disobey their own policies.
Come on DS, you have to stop following the manual if you want to "fool all of us".
