The phrase "weapon of war" always makes me think of the joke that the bagpipe is not an instrument, but a "weapon o' war, lad." So in the top picture, I am picturing them with bagpipes.
As you doubtless know but others in the audience may not, the bagpipes were in fact so classified by English courts after the '45. Bagpiper James Reid was executed for having borne them to a battlefield, even though he carried no other arms.
Scots are immensely proud of this today, and recently; on D-Day, there was a bagpiper, Bill Millin, among those who landed on the beaches. He was a Canadian, but served Lord Lovat of the British 1st Special Service Brigade. Lord Lovat thought it was important enough to make provision for it.
Our tiny local town (Post Office, market, feedstore) has a boat launch as part of the county parks. Adjacent to it, a causeway and bridge, with water on both sides. So the locals go to the Rez, buy fireworks (totally illegal ), and use the causeway as a place to set up. Now the County park has prominent NO FIREWORKS signs, and this morning volunteers picked up fifty or more 30 gallon trash bags full of debris. All from the previous night. It was an event. And the county supplied the bags, the vests, the signage, and even tongs to pick up the trash, and paid for the dump fee! I guess just making the best of it. Looking at the clean up crew, I suspect most were not there for the main event, as it was a bunch of older folks.
