Well, she is a Biden appointee. Given his penchant for diversity selections and nominations, it seems likely to me that she was chosen primarily for that name.
Sooknanan resigned from Jones Day in January 2021. Before her resignation, The New York Times reported that she denounced the firm's work in Pennsylvania on behalf of the Trump administration, saying that one lawsuit "was brought for no other reason than to deprive poor people of the right to vote."
I have no issue with foreign born, but I would not be against a law making those appointed or elected to the bench renounce any foreign citizenships they may have/be eligible for. My wife is considered by Hungary to be a citizen, though she long ago naturalized here, and could apply for a Hungarian passport and get it tomorrow. If she was to take a seat on the bench or take office, she would formally renounce it, and that's the right thing to do.

Another Biden selection criterion.
