At War Again

The US is deploying THAAD to protect Israel in its current war. I support this war, and Israel, but did Congress debate this entry into a regional war at all? Did it even become a matter of debate in the Presidential campaign? You’d think that it might, given that the Democratic administration has a base divided over the war.

Democrats control 2/3rds of the elected branches. How much democracy is really going on here? We keep hearing that it’s important, and on the ballot. Is it really?

We also keep hearing that the Deep State runs everything, and consult neither the elected officials nor the voters.

They've been debating it right along. Both parties are divided on the level of support for this war and the barbarians' invasion of Ukraine.

One or the other party has to get it settled within itself before it's ready to bring the matter to Congress.

Aside from that, the War Powers Act lets a President do pretty much what he wants for a brief number of weeks before he has to go to Congress for authorization to continue or instruction to stop. That hasn't been invoked by anybody yet.
