It's a bold fellow who implies he doesn't like Freebird.
I can read Middle English just fine, but for Old English/Old Norse I still need to get out my dictionaries.
Granted, I'd be run out of town in many places if I announced that out loud. Might even have to move.
Even so, while I can listen to any reasonably skilled band warble on about how selfish they are and how being unable to change somehow makes them free for about 2 minutes 15 seconds, and Skynyrd for about 3:15 (because they're a great band), anything beyond that starts to feel narcissistic. At the least, it seems to be belaboring the point.
That said, I did think it was very well-used in Forrest Gump, which had a great soundtrack.
On Ye Olde and Middle Englishes, a grad course in the history of the English language kind of killed those for me. I realized how little I actually understood even reading Middle English. There were so many false cognates that I realized I'd just have to look up almost every word and didn't have time for that. Which I regret, but other things have higher priority. Maybe one day ...

Well, I'm not quite naive enough to say this aloud outside of a small circle of friends. I've mastered smiling and tapping my toe until it's over. It's possibly the one thing in my life that suggests I could do undercover work.
