Dry Run

Officially there’s not yet a drought in Western North Carolina. However, Glassmine Falls is dry. You can see what it looks like usually at the link. Here’s what it looks like today:

This dry weather makes for great riding, though. As the Robert Duvall character says of cowboying in Broken Trail, “It’s a great life when it’s not raining or snowing.” Riding in the rain isn’t so bad, but it’s best when it’s sunny and warm.

Back tonight with any luck.

Not long ago you discovered a forest fire while traveling around in the mountains.
Which reminds me. A high school classmate lost his house in TX to a forest fire during the 2011 drought. He had neglected to insure for fire. He sucked it up and rebuilt.

So, I’ve asked about that and I’m told by my State Farm agent it may not be possible to insure against wildfire. They’re looking into it, but I probably should touch base again to see what they found.

Actually the underwriter said today that my existing policy does cover wildfire. So good!

Good to hear you're covered!

A pump and 1.5" hose can be had for around $600 last I checked. Just need a water source to feed it near the house. I like insurance like that. Combined with good fuel management around the dwelling, and good building practices, it's pretty effective.
