Clean Air

In LA, better school air filters raised test scores — a lot.

I'm not entirely sure why this would be surprising, perhaps more of a "well it's obvious in hindsight" sort of thing. Good, if there's a reasonably (and $1k/class may be a bit high, but compared to the cost of reducing class sizes by 1/3rd, it's eminently reasonable) costed way to improve test scores (and one also assumes, learning), then I think they should go for it.

Poorly functioning air filters- better said air filters that should have been replaced months ago- can also be a problem. I got a cold coming from 95 degree TX summer to the air conditioned hospital room in the Boston area where my father was dying.

My cold was bearable until we went out to eat at a local restaurant. Inside the restaurant, I could barely breathe. I suspect the restaurant's air filter was way past its replacement date.

Once we were outside, I could breathe again.
