A Trade Deal with China

Some say it’s a watershed, and others that it’s just one phase that leaves the bigger issues unsolved. Still, one would think a deal of such consequence would garner more attention and discussion.

I'm not sure it matters that the self-appointed gatekeepers and filters of what we're permitted to know aren't on about such things as tend to contradict their determinations, given all the ways we have to bypass their censors.

I do thing the watershedders, on either side, are hyping. It is only Phase I, and the principles have not said otherwise since the PRC blew up the prior agreement by welching on key parts of it.

Still, I'm spring-loaded to consider this Phase as net progress for us. I'll wait and see what Phase II (or its evolutions, Phase II.A, Phase II..B, Phase II.C) bring. As someone once said, it ain't over 'til it's over, and as Claire Berlinski noted in her newsletter, it's very often hard to tell when it's over.
