Nationalizing Elections

Under the traditional system, states run elections under state law even if they are for a Federal office. The Democrats would like to change that. Unsurprisingly, this is a wish-list of everything from "mandatory felon voting" to "mandatory registration to vote of everyone on welfare rolls." (Not everyone on welfare rolls is a citizen, but so what?)

Also, mandatory limits on states trying to make sure that voters aren't registered in two states at the same time. Hey, that sounds like an effort to ban checks on voter fraud. (So does 'mandatory same-day registration').

I'd like to see mandatory voter ID, of a sort that requires establishing citizenship -- a passport, or a certified birth certificate, or fully executed immigration and naturalization documentation.

My understanding is that's pretty close to what Real Id (what you need as identification to fly domestically after 2020) is.

Yes, except that you can get a Real ID without being a citizen. But you do have to produce your immigration paperwork. And the proof you present is digitized and stored in a central database, so it can be checked at any moment there’s a question. So election monitors could, in principle, use Real ID to verify citizenship as well as identification.

We need to be very heads up on this; it's constitutional. From Art I, Sect 4 [emphasis added]:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Place of Chusing Senators.

Civil War 2. Try to stop it if people can, instead of trying to argue silently in your head against Ymar. The latter is pointless and irrelevant, while the former is slightly more relevant to America's prospects of liberty and destiny.

Try not to go off on fruitless talents such as thinking the war is being promoted by me because I talked about it. It was promoted by everyone that refused to deny it and it was promoted by the Deep State, Cabal, Leftist alliance, that everyone wanted to ignore too if they could.
