"...but we’re not allowed to do anything about it,” the Marine told his father.
If you don't interfere, you become complicit. How can the American military stand by while such things go on? We would not ally ourselves with ISIS, and ignore the slave auctions going on next door.
Or would we?

Frankly, an order to "ignore it" is an illegal order, IMO. You cannot ask me to ignore the commission of a crime especially if it's on a US controlled base (AKA, US territory). "Cultural sensitivity" can stuff itself up it's own fourth point of contact.
The Left's hierarchy is designed to make people Obey their Orders. It's better than the Stazi, Nazis, and KGB combined.
Good luck trying to solve that with elections. Better cultures have tried and failed with that approach.
I am reminded of the following, apparently said by Sir Charles James Napier to the Hindu Priests arguing to be able to continue the practice of immolating widows on their late husbands funeral pyres:
"Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs."
This is the proper attitude to such offenses.
