Wormtongue

You know who's going to stab you in the back? Take a hint from Tolkien: it isn't Gandalf, and it isn't Aragorn. It's the guy who creeps but nevertheless desires Eowyn.

The Old Man knew his business.

What's the issue. Just get your smartphone video on record the evidence so that no lawyer can make a payday out of you for using justified lethal force.

Most of this has to do with an honor culture in their society. If their status is lowered, they may be killed by those around them, which happens more often in urban jungles. That's why Tray and other idiots would do risky things like confront someone that is following them or a police officer.

It's not rational for people, especially young ones, to risk death in a duel because of social expectations. That's because most of it isn't social expectations, it's an internal expectation. They can avoid social pressure by killing society, but they can't ignore their own heart as easily. If their heart is weak, they give up on killing society to prefer killing a few people in society. That's more doable. And they have little choice about it, since they believe they will suffer if they fail to do so.

Given the video of the recent mass killer wannabe, they are pretty weak and incompetent. Being killed by those people is difficult to believe. Then again, warfare has evolved to the point where some peasant with a crossbow could kill 30 years of hardened swordmanship and weapons training, so I guess we can't complain too much about where this all took us.
