The Smell of Gasoline

I don't think this is the song I was thinking of yesterday, but it's a good pairing. I remember liking the smell of gasoline around my grandfather's service station. I pumped gas for him when I was a child, in deep defiance of Federal standards. The gasoline was leaded sometimes in those days. I'm fairly intelligent; who knows what I might have been without the lead in the gas I pumped, in which we washed our hands at end of day.

I guess it doesn't matter. I was wedded from birth to the hardware. V-type engines, motorcycles and chrome. Whatever I gave to it, it's given a lot to me in return.
