No, it's ironic, but it's no joke
BYD said the Denza Z featured “shattering high performance” with over 1,000 hp and the ability to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in less than two seconds, it didn’t reveal specifics.... 

[New details show] the four-seat EV roadster is slightly larger than the Porsche 911 and closer in size to the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe. The Denza Z is more powerful than both, with the 911 Turbo S delivering up to 701 hp and the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe offering up to 1,153 hp.

BYD’s electric supercar can reach a top speed of 217 mph and weighs 5,842 lbs (2,650 kg) for the hardtop version.

The Denza Z will be available with a soft top and a souped-up track package that gains a massive rear wing spoiler.
Nearly six thousand pounds moving at over two hundred miles an hour is a lot of F=ma. That Mercedes is closer to three and a half. Wonder how good the spoiler is? How about the brakes? 

It's strange to see luxury goods coming out of a Communist country; being consumed there by connected elites, certainly, but actually produced there? It seems like that should hardly be a priority in the Five Year Plan

0-62 in two seconds? I'd like to see the tires that are grippy enough to support that acceleration, especially from the standing start.

Yeah, now take away all the computer controls and see how fast a actual human can drive them. Last time I was in a Ducati dealership, the sales guy was mentioning all the new riders buying some Panigale V4 superbike- I said, is that not a bit much for a new rider? Oh no, we have traction control and wheelie control and 5 axis IMU controlling the antilock brakes and etc etc. Hmm.The motorcycles I was raised on and still ride have much less cotton swaddling. If you screw up they will bite. And I like it like that.

The car prolly has traction control and an automatic tranny, but both of those are "old" technologies. Anti-lock brake systems are not new, either--but you don't need those to gofast. Stopping? yah.

But I'm with you: still driving a manny-tranny if possible, no 'eye in the sky' spyware like GM's OnStar. But my car does have anti-lock brakes and it's a '14.

As an electric, it probably relies partly on regenerative braking. One hopes they've done a good job on determining how much current this can pump into the circuitry in cases such as panic-stop from top speed, downhill – and have an adequate safety factor in the circuitry.
(Dorm neighbor in one of the early https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromouse competitions was was in a group that decided to win by making the robot mouse very fast. They made the energy-density of their 'mouse' as high as they could in order to hot-rod the acceleration.
The test maze had a longer straight run than they had anticipated, and in trying to decelerate from a speed-they-had-never-tested to make the turn at the end, their mouse blew the electronic braking circuit thus leaving them with an uncontrolled 25cm³ cube having the weight of a horseshoeing-anvil and moving at several M/s on REALLY good wheel bearings.
Needless to say, they got a DQ for damage to the maze. The rules did not then specify any additional sanction for other damage to the event space.)

Fair point. I spent Sunday morning on a brake job — pads and fluid flush— on my truck. Ceramic pads and DOT 3/4 fluid are heavy, but they work unless the lines blow.
