Almost certainly that explanation is not why the children find it funny. But it is ok to just have play: our loss of that is one of the things that makes adulthood tragic. It's fine that they find a silly thing funny; I wish I still knew how. Maybe I'll rediscover it again if I live long enough.
I think children can teach us how, or maybe even just remembering ourselves as children. I remember the year or so I spent teaching third graders as a silly year, a year well-spent. But that was a long time ago and most everything since has been deadly serious. I'm still trying to find my way back as well.
