Amelia

If you haven't yet heard about Amelia, you might be surprised when you see her. She's a purple-haired, choker-wearing young woman who doesn't immediately strike me as someone who would be right-wing coded. Normally, if I saw someone with purple or blue hair, I might think they were left-wing coded; young women are notably more left-wing than other people; and a choker as a necklace tends to at least shade at lifestyles that are less than conservative-aligned. Nevertheless, when you encounter this cartoon you'll find that she is stridently right-wing.

This is apparently what soccer lovers call an 'own goal' by the UK government

You can play the game she stars in here, if you like. It's ridiculous propaganda that deserves the outcome they are getting.

Oops!

UPDATE: Readily adaptable to many formats, it turns out. She can even be educational

I played the game. One thing that jumped out at me was that the game writers wrote the main character (I had chosen the male option) to be highly schizophrenic, with multiple personalities: the game writers constantly referred to the character with the plural third person pronoun instead of the singular male pronoun--"they" vs "he" as the male character so obviously was.

With bias like that so obvious, it's no wonder the game blew up on the government's shoddy attempt at propaganda.

What struck me was that the designers expect you to be very upset that your mother is disappointed in you.

You've got to learn to take the key, as Bly pointed out two generations ago.

Might be pro-trans/pronouns bias but I'm betting on lazy. Not using he or she means the developers didn't have to set up the code to provide different text based on the sex of the character you chose.

That would be lazy, indeed. It's a line to define the he/she and another line to set a flag.

More likely it's the programmers steeped in their Newspeak dictionary rather than hewing to an American English dictionary.

I have to agree with Mr. Hines. It's easy to code; the point has to be trying to normalize the abnormal English.

LMAO. So this is what that is all about. Too funny.

This sort of thing will get people sent to prison in the UK.

Itself an adequate reason for such a protest.

Today, being a goth libertarian or small-government punk is probably wild rebellion in the UK.

Or maybe something a bit stronger.

Indeed it is provably so: one of the Sex Pistols, Johnny Rotten, has since become a small-government conservative (to the horror of the commentariat).
