I don’t know what the first version of this song I heard was, but it was not Steeleye Span. I had not heard of them before I started reading your blog, AVI. I had a lot of interest in Early Music, which in the old days was hard to come by; I used to go down to Atlanta where there were better music stores to hunt for it.

I have loved this since I first heard it on vinyl in a record store in 1972, sung by Steeleye Span who brought it back to popularity.
The Steeleye Span is the one I'm familiar with, too--a favorite.
