Apparently Nova Scotia, which is about the size of New Hampshire, has simply ordered its population not to go into the woods to hike or camp this fall. There's
a fine of twenty-five grand if you do so and get caught.

I hear the fires have been bad.
No doubt they have; and a burning/campfire/smoking ban I could see -- even perhaps with a large fine, although that one is a little shocking.
I understand the concern - it is dry, and once a peat bog or some of the other wetlands catch fire, it can smolder below the surface and flare up later, or collapse under fire fighters. However, the amount of the fine, and that the restriction includes private property (you can’t go into your own woods), strike me as gross overreach, even for Canada. I’m seeing the phrase “climate emergency lock-down” being tossed around on Canadian blogs and news sites.

Yeah, well, the climate is always in an emergency. I think we all learned recently how dangerous it is to give them 'two weeks' of emergency powers, as they can easily turn into many months.
Perhaps the gentleman could produce another video, this one for the benefit of the Nova Scotia Poobahs, delineating one or two distinctions between hiking and fire starting.
