What a joke. "occupation by ICE." Petulant Democrats and other assorted leftist crying about the National Guard and federal law enforcement cleaning up the city after the failure of their local leaders to do so does not impress me. Where were these people when the National Guard was deployed to D.C for over six months after Jan 6??? That was done for nothing more than political theater. At least this time they are helping to clean up a city that has had an out-of-control crime problem. As someone who actually lives in the area, works in Arlington, and regularly goes into D.C., not just occasionally visits, I can attest to the fact that D.C. has not been a safe place (far from it). At least now, someone is doing something about it.
There seems to be some amnesia about that. I’ve asked the people I’ve talked to about the National Guard deployment after January 6th, amd nobody seems willing to admit that they remember it. It was definitely not received the same way as this one.
I think mostly it’s tribal; that was their team, so of course it was done for good reasons and wasn’t worth getting upset about. Partly though I do think it’s because most of these troops are Southerners from Red states; we have come far enough apart as a nation that this feels like a foreign army to many people here.

By the way, I’ll be in Arlington this afternoon.
These are not people known for intellectual consistency.
