It's really become something along biblical scale at this point. I've seen that people are finally starting to realize that the FDs are stretched to the limit, and may not be coming to help you, so they stay and do what they can- not always enough, but sometimes yes. I have heard that one firefighter sustained a serious head injury, and another has died, unfortunately. Fortunately, for the moment, the winds have subsided considerably, and so the air resources have been able to fly at night again, and even though a couple other fires have started, they have been contained fairly quickly. The Palisades and Eaton fires, not so much. I'm truly stunned that the Eaton fire has burned down to Washington Blvd in places- it would have been unimaginable to me before it happened. I wonder how many of these fires were started by the homeless population we refuse to do anything about, as well. It's also going to be interesting how this plays out in the long run- I can see a lot of the people in Palisades leaving L.A. and maybe California because they can afford it, and the Alta Dena folks may see many leave because they can't afford it here any more, especially if they don't have enough or any insurance. I doubt FEMA will be enough help to keep them here. At any rate, for all our failures of leadership and civics, our rank and file firefighters are tried and true, and a real blessing.
