I don't remember ever seeing a boxing match end in surrender before. Apparently it happens on very rare occasions, and is the subject of introspection when it does because it points to some extraordinary condition that should have been avoided. We will see if there is any introspection on this occasion.

Roberto Duran surrendered to Sugar Ray Leonard in their rematch.
That one was a little before my time. Sugar Ray was a treasured elder boxer when I began following the sport. I used to enjoy boxing in my 20s, never even as an amateur, just as something we did at the dojo sometimes to vary things from jujitsu and kempo. I always liked the sweet science. It feels good to crack your body like a whip and feel all that power; at least, it does when you're in your 20s.
