I wouldn't make a competition out of it. Either way le roi est mort, vive le roi. It's nice to see one of Waylon's classic guitars back in service, though, even if for just one night.
They put it on over their hat just the same way.

Waylon Jennings was better as a lyricist, no doubt. About all the words that Bob Wills brought to the table would be to shout out to his fans in Odessa, as in Panhandle Rag. Or to point out that it was the turn of "the piano pounder" to step up to the plate and do his solo bit.
But the jazz-blues-folk-country mixture of Western Swing, which Bob Wills pretty much founded-apologies to Milton Brown- is vastly superior music to anything that Waylon Jennings played or composed. When it comes to musicianship and leading a band, Waylon Jennings is but a peasant compared to Bob Wills, the real king.
Waylon is the one who wrote the song “Bob Wills is Still the King.”
His band often covered the Texas Playboys, too. On one of his live albums he talks about Wills as having done so much for “our kind of music,” whatever he meant by that.
Point taken. That wasn't the opinion of Waylon Jennings, but of one of his fans.
