The Jewish philosopher Maimonides quoted the law which said that teachers should not teach on the Vision of Ezekiel in the presence of two; and if only of one, only if he had proper understanding suitable to begin; and even then, only to explain the chapter headings.

So to war stories. Some of them are harmless, and can be said broadly; but the important ones are only shared viva voce, not in large companies, and not with those who lack understanding.

Well that's an interesting law. So, it's better for people to read it without explanation than to get explanations they are not prepared to understand, I guess.

All of Lovell's war stories in this series so far are the harmless sort, naturally enough.
