It does seem like I end up involved in all these little conflicts, in big ways or in small ones. Maybe it's just what I'm best at, as much as I wish it were philosophy or history. Or just riding motorcycles, if you could find a way to make that pay.

Seems to turn out that way for a lot of folks. This is definitely not where 18-year-old me wanted to end up.

Of course, coulda been this guy

I had the impression motorcycle operators had occasional opportunity to ride courier missions for those in need of speed, privacy, and minimal numbers of middle-men.

Perhaps my impressions are obsolete?

Or transport and delivery of low mass, high value cargo along and to hard-to-navigate routes and destinations. Or even to transport convenience goods, like food-to-deliver ops. Although there's already some competition in that niche.

Nobody needs to move anything that urgently up here. We’re a long way from everything, so people have gotten used to a lack of speed.

I had planned to be a military intelligence analyst, preferably Navy, and language specialist. I teach high school history, government, and world affairs, and write history-tinged fantasy fiction.

Alas, the job market for horse-riding, multi-lingual sopranos with boy-like singing voices is rather small. :)
