Supermajority

The NC legislature will now be able to override vetos from our rotten governor whenever they want

I read a separate article about this in another news outlet that indicated the leak of this impending move came from some Republican representatives. My initial reaction at the time was one of irritation over the leak and that Cotham should decline to switch and burn the leakers. If that other article is accurate, they will have shown they cannot be trusted.

In any event, I'm not sure how veto proof her presence would make the State's legislature. Having exactly the numbers to override and no more is iffy at best, requiring all of the majority party to hang together. Cotham would not be a rock-ribbed Republican. Further, if Brockman's characterization is accurate, she'll do what she thinks best for her constituents--as any elected representative should do--and not what party membership pushes her to do.

Good for her. Obviously what she thinks is right for her constituents is changing parties, though.
