Not just physically, either. That's a fine and beautiful sentiment.
Governments fail sometimes. That's ok. Citizens step up, because it all really belongs to us. A government that fails can be replaced, by citizens. If you don't like that, governments, don't fail.
At one point the prosecutor, weirdly, was trying to get Rittenhouse to admit that it made him feel good when a police car came by and said something nice and gave him a bottle of water. Rittenhouse discounted how much it felt like a pat on the back and simply emphasized how much he appreciated the water, especially since his eyes were burning from either the police gas or the homemade rioters' gas (bottles with bleach and ammonia that released chlorine gas). I guess he hoped the jury would think it was illegitimate to have a good self-image as a vigilante, being on a lark, hoping to bag him a few bad guys. Rittenhouse just kept doggedly putting out fires and rendering a little first aid for minor problems like cut fingers and sprained ankles.
He wouldn't be human if he didn't get a little excited affirmation out of his role in upholding civilization, but he seemed to have a remarkable ability to keep it within bounds.
The prosecutor is a bad man. He made it clear in arguments (thank goodness out of the hearing of the jury) when he clearly stated his theory of the case: to show that Rittenhouse showed bad judgment being there that night, and should go to prison for life because of it. The rioters? Oh, they totally had a right to be there. The "curfew" wasn't about them, apparently it was just aimed at conservatives. This is a prosecutor. The mind reels.
Dont worryz unlike most of humanity, i and god keep our word to burn them to the ground. That includes btw the us of a, the feds, the militaryz the policez fbi, cia, osha, and so forth.
