Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

I didn't see this yesterday. The article about it over at PJ Media begins:

Today, April 24, marks the “Great Crime,” that is, the genocide of Christians—mostly Armenians but also Assyrians—that took place under the Islamic Ottoman Empire throughout World War I.  Then, the Turks liquidated approximately 1.5 million Armenians and 300,000 Assyrians.

Most objective American historians who have studied the question unequivocally agree that it was a deliberate, calculated genocide ...
Here is the Wikipedia article on the subject.

Here is one lesson out of many- Hopefully there will not be a test.

"In 2005, the International Association of Genocide Scholars affirmed that scholarly evidence revealed the "Young Turk government of the Ottoman Empire began a systematic genocide of its Armenian citizens – an unarmed Christian minority population"

When I was young, I read a lot about the American Indians. The shabby way that every treaty made in good faith by the Indians, was violated by the US government was sickening. Only later did I realize that was the fate of most treaties, resolutions, etc. Only raw brutal force, or the certain risk of it, is sufficient to keep bullies withing acceptable bounds. That includes governments. The current ranting of the left about deplorable's with guns, and the eliminationist bent of the diatribes, is reinforcing that belief daily. The thought is going from cerebral to intestinal.

True, Raven. We must remember that no man is free who is not also strong. Sometimes the strength comes from his own arms, and sometimes it comes from his friendships with other free men. But weakness invites abuse. Weakness is, as we used to say, provocative.

Paragraph 8 before the word "Christian" is used. Followed by quoting a Bedouin Arab at length that Islam in general should not be blamed.

Wikipedia is good for facts, but it shades them.

Also from the wiki-

"The next day, 20 April 1915, the siege of Van began when an Armenian woman was harassed, and the two Armenian men who came to her aid were killed by Ottoman soldiers. The Armenian defenders protected the 30,000 residents and 15,000 refugees living in an area of roughly one square kilometer of the Armenian Quarter and suburb of Aigestan with 1,500 ablebodied riflemen who were supplied with 300 rifles and 1,000 pistols and antique weapons. The conflict lasted until General Yudenich of Russia came to their rescue."

I still remember when the Inquisition and Vatican killed off the Albigensians. That was one way of getting rid of the Divine Feminine... in order to keep the Kiddies and girls for the Vatican priests at least.

You know one of the modern Catholic responses was "those Albigensians are devil worshippers. They refused to have children and thus threatened the Church". Well... obviously not having children and not giving them to the Vatican priests... is a threat yes.

You humans are...

The federal government at the time was barely powerful enough to keep slave states and Mormons in check. Not sure they could do anything about Red Indians even if the Indian agents wanted to.

Only raw brutal force, or the certain risk of it, is sufficient to keep bullies withing acceptable bounds.

So why is the Antarctica Treaty the only one that remains unbroken?

Living near the greatest concentration of ethnic Armenians outside of Yerevan, I always know when that day comes. You see young Armenians driving around with car flags, and flags on the hood or trunk of their car. They haven't forgotten. They're also a pretty pro 2nd Amendment group by and large, no surprise I'm sure.

Also of note: the Turkish/Mohammedan government declared possession of guns illegal in 1901--only 15 (or so) years before the massacre and exile.

So the resistance was equipped with illegal guns....
