Politics as Usual

The funeral of Senator John McCain was a festival of anti-Trump rhetoric, in spite of the fact that some Trump family members were in attendance. Well, that's doubtless just what McCain would have wanted. However, there is a footnote to this story that is worth knowing.

If the state is the most important thing in the universe, then control of it is more important than anything else. Trivial cultural things like courtesy are snares that take your eyes off the prize--you must not let the things of the world distract you from god.

I easily can look past Meghan McCain's bitterness; her father was, after all, baselessly attacked during campaign rhetoric, and her grief, quite apart from that, was and is palpable--she and her father were close.

The bitter-enders, not so much. They weren't mourning a man's passing in the slightest; McCain's humanity had no meaning at all for them. Ms McCain's father and his passing were merely tools for their personal politicking. Despicably so.

McCain has a lot to learn from his mistakes in life, even now.

He'll have to go through another pass through.
