One of the things that made Howard Dean of VT unpopular with national liberals was his comment "I come from Vermont. Even liberals own 2-3 guns here." Not strictly true, because VT does have some crazy anti-gun people. But it's true enough.
Vermont is the outlier in these maps: the one state where gun-owning households went for Clinton in 2016. West Virginia was the only state where non-gun-owning households broke for Trump.
