Go, Mighty Bulldogs

If you didn't catch the Rose Bowl tonight, you missed perhaps the finest game of football ever played.

I don't have TV, but I follow some sports on my computer, so I caught the highlights and the back-and-forth. Some amazing plays. Good luck against Alabama.

From what I hear, Georgia isn't losing many players and should be good next year as well.

Bummed I was on the road and couldn't watch. Heard the results and saw highlights, wow, some game. Just one more, Dawgs- go get 'em!

I was reminded of an old Major League Baseball contest: Home Run Derby, this time with the defenses carefully serving up easy efforts so the offenses could look good.

Will Georgia bring along its defense teams for the next game? Do it have defensive players to suit up?

I saw most of this game and it was great. But I thought the UCF-Auburn game was even more exciting.

The Bulldogs have held almost every opponent to 2 touchdowns or less this season, except Notre Dame (whom they still beat), Missouri (whom they beat 53-28), and Auburn (who beat them, their only loss this year; they played Auburn again in the SEC championship and beat them, holding them to a single TD).

The Sooners had a massive offense, though. I was very impressed with them, especially in the first half but all the way to the end.

Well, if we had to lose, I can't complain too much about losing to the Bulldogs.

I wish I'd been able to see the whole game.

I do my best to miss every game of basketball ever played.

I didn't care enough about the game to watch it, but my bias was towards Oklahoma, given my Okie mother.

Without taking into consideration the Bulldogs-Sooners game, my call on the best college football game ever was the Texas-USC Rose Bowl with Vince Young.

Doubtless there is some ambiguity in the term 'best' as applied to football. It could mean most technically accomplished, or most dominant performance, or many other things.

What I mean by it was that the contest was truly exciting to watch. Georgia went down by 17 points, then in the second half fought back to a tie. Then in the fourth quarter they intercepted a pass. On that drive they scored a touchdown and went ahead for the first time in the game. Then the Sooners came back, and with two unanswered touchdowns tied the game up and then went back ahead. Then Georgia tied the game again, effectively stopped the Sooners' final attempt to win in regulation, and the game went into overtime. And then double overtime. In Double OT, Georgia blocked a field goal(!), and then managed a final touchdown that brought it to an end.

It was a tremendous spectacle. Both teams were playing their hearts out. The two quarterbacks were equally admirable for completely different reasons. There were highs, there were lows, and the drama of the game was unmatched by any I've ever seen.

So, in that sense, I maintain that it was the best game I have ever watched. In other senses of the word 'best,' there may be others.

From what I heard on the radio, and saw in the highlights & commentary, Oklahoma came well prepared for a good Georgia defense with a large number of 'trick' plays and odd formations, and this had to have been a factor. Not sure every team is really capable of doing that to that degree though.
