AFG (Still?) Hot

Newly published today, a mortar team covers its own position with rifles while sending rounds downrange. Not very far downrange.

UPDATE: Footage is from 2009, only just reposted yesterday. See comments.

The link I followed said it was from 2009. They may have added the year after the initial posting. Cammies would seem to support 2009 as opposed to 2017 as well.

Oh, you're right. I was fooled by the fact that it says "First posted August 30th 2017" at the top. I did wonder where they got the old cammies, but even in 2009 we still had some guys who were wearing 3-color DCU armor (in fact, in 2007, my helmet cover was still DCU). So I figured maybe these guys had inherited some old stuff in a similar way.

No doubt the supply system is never "speedy". I especially liked our Desert Storm desert cammies with woodland flaks and green web gear. Kind of defeating the purpose here, guys. :)

That is an interesting use of a mortar. 4.2"? It seems like they were using it as a close range interdiction weapon, swiveling it around, adding increments and adjusting elevation as if it were the worlds biggest M-79.

Yeah, that's right. That's what caught my eye, too: just turn it around and set it, crank it a little higher, and it'll do.

Too bad E.B.Sledge is not available for comment. No doubt he could give pointers on the close in use of a mortar.
