NASCAR is not really my thing, but that ad was certainly entertaining.

Truthfully, it's not mine either. I've watched a lot of it in my lifetime, though, because it very much is my father's thing.

I like to occasionally watch auto racing, but have always had a preference for open wheels, and road courses. It just seemed more interesting to me. I have heard it said that NASCAR is more about driver vs. driver as opposed to Indy or F1 because there it's so much about the equipment and Stock Cars are pretty uniform, so perhaps I should like NASCAR more, but I just don't.

Oh, and what I like about the ad is that at least someone on Madison Avenue thinks that there are still many Americans who think this is what America is- trophies for winners, some danger is acceptable, sexuality is a private matter mostly, manual labor is good, glory is an aspiration. Maybe we're not dead yet.

NASCAR: floor it, and steer left. Ooh. Be still, my heart.

Auto racing ought to be about, you know, racing. Road racing, for instance, or my preference, Grand Prix. Not many hairpins at Daytona, and no coming up a rise right into one, either. Followed by a long, fast straight that feeds into a hard right.

Here's Monaco, for instance.
