I think Hussein sending the British Queen an ipod with his speeches on it, was the kicker. This has more taste, although it only impacts people who are passionate and are loyal to the White House.
What the hell. Gotta take a joke. I worked with someone who once spent July 4th on a BP rig off Brazil. He made it a point to inform some of the Brits on the rig that July 4th "was the day we got rid of you limeys."
Neither of the two incidents will stop me from reading Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Shakespeare...
I suppose being a diplomat isn't entirely consistent with going public with edgy humor--but for Pete's sake. People actually whined about this? That's just embarrassing.

I'm not sure they'd be allowed to eat the cake if she were there.

I know of Marie Antoinette, Ymar. But she was a better woman, though the quote may be spurious: still, she was honorable. A sacrifice.
When we've lost the ability to laugh at ourselves (the most sincere form of self-criticism), then we've lost a key piece of our humanity.

Sly, that's the White House we're talking about. Narcissism by definition precludes a fully 'human' response.
Antoinette was making a suggestion that people eat a different kind of flour, that cake is made out of. Cake was out too, hence the famine.
As such, of course she is better than America's Mistress right now.
