AVI, true that *oil* is global & fungible; much less true of natural gas. NG, if it doesn't go by pipeline, requires specialized & expensive loading and unloading facilities, and well as specialized ships.
Russia may need to sell to the Ukraine almost as much as the Ukraine needs to buy, but it can't be much help "selling" if the Ukraine doesn't pay--as it hasn't for quite some time now.
Time for the IMF or whoever to send a bunch of relief money to the Ukraine so it can funnel it to Russia before Russia takes over entirely.
Europe has lots of natural gas, if it cares to develop it. They'll have to make up their minds, because if they don't like oil, and they don't like coal, and they don't like fracking, and they don't like nuclear, they're going to be hard-pressed to carry on with 100% solar and wind.
I've read that lots of natural gas wells here in the U.S. are shut in for lack of pipeline capacity.

Oil is pretty global and fungible. Russia also needs to sell what they have somewhere.
If Europe would stand up, this would be over quickly in Ukraine's favor. As the Europeans don't want to, neither do I.
Well, in fairness to Yerp, Obama is in the way, too. And he's hurting not only the Ukrainians (and the Yerpeens), but American producers, too.
The strain of greatness is such a burden.
