I Feel A Little Less Eccentric Now:

The Red Book is an immense illuminated manuscript, which [Carl] Jung indited on cream vellum in the private scriptorium of his study over a period of about sixteen years, copiously illustrated with elaborate, vivid, and occasionally ghastly painted panels, and bound in red leather.

I rather think you shouldn't feel eccentric at all.

Certainly not compared to a psychologist.

A fair point.

I thought the essay brilliant, but contradictorily, gave up halfway through. Perhaps it is the 12 ounces (and counting) of Chardonnay, but I couldn't stick with it. However, I supposedly have a tested IQ of 168 (I think 150 is probably closer), work in psychology and am interested in both early 20th and late 1st C thought, so one wonders who the hell Hart thinks he is writing for.

Jung had two or three Good Ideas. After that, he was just a poseur. What you already know about him is enough. You don't need more.

I too, gave up some ways in- agreeing that the initial information was fascinating, but after that, pointless. I don't think my IQ is that high, though ;)
