Headline: "How President Donald Trump Could Ruin His Enemies' Lives."
The article makes a lot of good points, and indeed explains why the unconstrained Federal government is such a tremendous danger to the very liberty it was created to protect. Only now do they see the terror of the monster they've created.
What they also don't see is how it's been used, and is being used, in so many of these ways. In fact, if you talked to them about the IRS scandal, you'd be told that was just wild conspiracy theory.
Nor do they ponder how much institutional resistance there would be to a Trump attempt to turn a bureaucracy made up very disproportionately of Democrats against his enemies. A Clinton attempt, by contrast, would be as happily embraced as the Obama attempts have been.

IIRC, Nixon encountered resistance from the IRS for his attempts to use the IRS in the same manner Obama has used the IRS.
Cognitive dissonance everywhere.
"What they also don't see is how it's been used, and is being used, in so many of these ways."
They see. They just don't see it as wrong when they do it. They're so certain of their own righteousness that they believe themselves to be above petty bourgeoisie rules of honesty and fair play. Their ends justify their means. They play at humility by "apologizing" for the sins of others who mean nothing to them through public displays of "liberal guilt," but harbor no concept whatsoever of their own fallibility.
What Matt said, pretty much. When Obama uses these methods, he's defending the good people against the bad people. But when Trump (notionally) uses them, he's attacking the good people. This is completely different as you can see.
Atlas is going to shrug in a thousand tiny ways going forward.
Matt..."They play at humility by "apologizing" for the sins of others who mean nothing to them through public displays of "liberal guilt," but harbor no concept whatsoever of their own fallibility."
Yep. "Liberal guilt" is largely a myth....they don't feel personally guilty, they think *you* should feel guilty and they are superior. Way back in 1940, CS Lewis wrote an essay that explains the psychology of this sort of thing very well. I excerpted it here:

I think Matt's right about a certain type of liberal, but the liberal media is full of apologists who explain these things away, and I think a lot of liberals really, genuinely don't believe Obama has used the bureaucracy in these ways.
AVI: Yes he is.

Which is why I am not allowed to forgive them, Grim, and why they deserve to be condemned for evil, for they are evil. Evil must be killed, unless people enjoy watching their civilization fall under Lucifer's command.

Nixon was investigating voter fraud by the DNC. The records weren't supposed to be used in that manner, of course, but then again, JFK and FDR got away with spying on a lot more Republicans for far less of a righteous cause.

So what are you doing this afternoon? Killing, or watching? I'm guessing watching.
