BETTER THAT THEY SHOULD BE VICTIMS? Students who tackle shooters die as heroes. Some experts worry ‘we’re setting our kids up to be martyrs.’ “”We’re asking children to make executive decisions, life-and-death decisions.” We’re not asking them to. Life is forcing them to. And this isn’t unusual, but rather — since these “children” are teenagers — the norm for human existence. You could join the Roman legions at 14.

It's sad when folks like Chuck and her so-called experts are...triggered...by other folks doing their duty.

If a nut comes on campus intent on murdering people, kids are going to get killed. I suppose we should prefer that they be killed peacefully hiding under a desk, instead of going out in a blaze of glory trying to fight back.
We're setting up teenaged students to be martyrs by arranging things so that older professionals are almost certain not to arrive armed in time to do any good. Next step: disarm the police and counsel everyone to wait peacefully for the courts to resolve the issue whether some poor guy is responsible for himself when grief and horror over President Trump or capitalism or the unfair treatment of exointragendered whatevers leaves him no choice but to go postal in the nearest public school. In the meantime, call in some grief counselors or drum circles, maybe some vigils with candles. Those are nice.
There are respectable philosophies that would urge just this kind of self-sacrificing pacifism, but at least they take responsibility for the martyrdom that is sure to result and try to make sense of why it's the right choice however tragic and costly.
I joined the War when I was born. Not sure what you humans are complaining about at 6, 8, 12, 14, or whatever age yall think yall are at.
