If this keeps going on, it’ll be substantial, and a lot of those jobs will never come back,” Trump responded. “You’re going to have a lot closer to a balanced budget.”
The government has been "closed" for a week. Have you noticed? If not, how much do you really need them back?

Be careful with that estimation now. After the first couple shutdowns, which probably did have significant impacts on day-to-day government services, measures have been put in place to keep the really essential things like Armed Forces pay and Social Security checks happening (I got mine today as usual despite the shutdown). Usually the things missing are visible but hardly necessities like National Parks. I haven't heard of any ICE raids being stopped due to the shutdown, for instance.
Nor will you: ICE and all of DHS were fully funded by the Big Beautiful Bill.
